AI use at work has hit a major milestone — half of all Americans now use artificial intelligence on the job, according to Gallup’s latest survey. But adoption isn’t happening evenly across the workforce.
The Big Picture
Despite the ongoing debate among company executives about the best approach to AI adoption, the data clearly shows that top executives are the most frequent users of AI.
The Numbers Tell the Story
A February survey of 23,717 U.S. employees found that daily AI usage is steadily climbing. Currently, 13% of workers use AI every day — up from 12% last quarter and 10% the quarter before.
Seniority plays a major role in how often workers reach for AI tools. Among organizations where AI is available, usage frequency breaks down as follows:
- 67% of senior leaders use AI daily or several times a week
- 52% of managers do the same
- 50% of project managers follow suit
- 46% of individual contributors use it at that frequency
Gallup attributes this gap to the nature of leadership roles, which tend to be desk-based and centered around writing, planning, and communication—tasks where AI tools naturally fit in.
The Growing Fear of Replacement
As AI spreads through organizations, so does worker anxiety. Gallup found that 18% of all U.S. According to Gallup, 18% of all U.S. employees believe that technology or automation could likely replace their jobs within the next five years. That figure jumps to 23% among employees at companies that have already adopted AI—suggesting that closer exposure to the technology is amplifying job security concerns.
Methodology
Results are drawn from Gallup’s quarterly workforce study, based on self-administered web surveys. The February 4–19 survey included 23,717 employed U.S. adults, with a margin of error of ±0.9 percentage points.
