Anthropic (the company behind the AI chatbot Claude) and Amazon are taking their partnership to the next level. They have signed a massive new deal to secure up to 5 gigawatts of computing power—an enormous amount of energy and technology—to train and run Claude faster and better than ever before.
Here is a breakdown of the three main ways this partnership is expanding:
1. A $100 Billion Commitment to Tech Over the next ten years, Anthropic will spend over $100 billion on Amazon Web Services (AWS) technology. They will use Amazon’s custom-built computer chips (called Trainium) to power Claude. Amazon’s chips are highly sought after because they offer top-tier performance at a lower cost. Anthropic is securing this massive amount of server space to ensure they can handle future growth, expanding their reach in Asia and Europe as well.
2. Claude is Moving Directly into AWS For businesses, using Claude is about to get much easier. The full “Claude Platform” will be built directly into AWS. This means companies already using Amazon’s cloud services won’t need to sign new contracts, create new accounts, or worry about new security rules. They can access Claude using their existing Amazon setup. (Claude is the only major AI model available on all three major clouds: Amazon, Google, and Microsoft).
3. Amazon is Pouring in Billions More Amazon is putting serious money behind Anthropic. They are investing $5 billion today, with plans to invest up to $20 billion more in the future. This is on top of the $8 billion Amazon has already invested in the AI company.
Why is this happening now? Simply put: Claude is growing so fast that its servers are struggling to keep up.
Anthropic’s revenue has skyrocketed from about $9 billion at the end of 2025 to over $30 billion today. Because millions of new users are flocking to Claude’s Free, Pro, and Max tiers, the system has been facing slow-downs and glitches during busy hours.
This massive deal with Amazon is the solution. By adding nearly 1 gigawatt of new computing power before the end of this year, Anthropic promises to quickly fix these reliability issues and keep Claude running smoothly for everyone.
