Today marks the launch of Project Glasswing, a massive new cybersecurity initiative aimed at protecting the world’s most critical software.
The project brings together an unprecedented coalition of industry leaders, including Amazon Web Services, Anthropic, Apple, Broadcom, Cisco, CrowdStrike, Google, JPMorganChase, the Linux Foundation, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Palo Alto Networks.
The Catalyst: Claude Mythos Preview The initiative was formed in direct response to the staggering capabilities of Anthropic’s new, unreleased frontier AI model: Claude Mythos Preview.
The model has reached a terrifying but powerful milestone—it can now surpass all but the most elite human experts at finding and exploiting software vulnerabilities. In fact, Mythos Preview has already uncovered thousands of high-severity flaws across every major operating system and web browser.
The Growing Threat As AI continues to advance rapidly, the ability to find and exploit these vulnerabilities will soon proliferate. If these capabilities fall into the hands of malicious actors, the fallout for global economies, public safety, and national security could be devastating. Project Glasswing is an urgent, preemptive strike to put this powerful AI on the defensive before attackers can use it offensively.
The Action Plan & Funding Through Project Glasswing, the massive tech coalition will actively use Mythos Preview to hunt down vulnerabilities and secure their own infrastructure. To ensure the broader tech ecosystem is protected, Anthropic is taking several major steps:
- Industry Sharing: Anthropic will share the lessons learned from the project so the entire cybersecurity industry can benefit.
- Expanded Access: Over 40 additional organizations that build or maintain critical software (including open-source systems) have been granted access to use the model for scanning and securing their code.
- Financial Commitment: Anthropic is pledging up to $100 million in usage credits for Mythos Preview to support these efforts, alongside $4 million in direct donations to open-source security organizations.
The Road Ahead Project Glasswing is just the beginning. Securing the world’s cyber infrastructure is a monumental task that will take years, and no single organization can do it alone. With AI capabilities expected to advance even further in just the next few months, governments, software companies, and security researchers must act right now to ensure cyber defenders stay one step ahead of the threats.
